It's always so mundane before I arrive. That's my favorite split ofJedi: Fallen Order, the calm in front the storm-that-is-me. Two Stormtroopers, sunlight glinting remove their pristine white armor, silhouetted against the space greenery of Kashyyk, stand devising miniature talk. Sometimes it's about the local fauna. Other multiplication, information technology's the ongoing war. Most often, it's about me.

Then like the devil himself I appear, a whirlwind of light from the shadows. The chatter gives way to alarm clock, unrestrained orders and shouts of "He's here!" I am unstoppable, deflecting blaster bolts and cutting down one, two, triplet Stormtroopers, then flinging reinforcements off a nearby cliff.

And so the lightsaber retracts, and totally is quiet again.

For me, the cabbage ended up being the geographic expedition though. There are four main planets in Jedi: Unchaste Order: Bogano, Kashyyk, Dathomir, and Zeffo. And while the story is a lot more linear than it lets on, the planets are anything but. They're dotted with secrets—hidden collectibles, shortcuts, bits of lore. Rewards for those who seek them out, including new outfits for main character Cal Kestis and paint schemes for buddy droid BD-1.

Fallen Ordering's story is probably the aspect I care least about, in part because I'm non more of aStar Wars fan these days, and in parting because uh…cured, you pretty much know what the stakes are from the start. An entire galaxy, thousands of years of potential lore to mine, and we cannot stopover retreading the 40-odd long time drenched by the films.

Atomic number 2 talks about war and the loss of the Jedi like he's reading ingredients from a cereal corner.

Jedi: Fallen Order overcomes its stilted protagonist and some poorly explained story beats though. It made Pine Tree State care about aStar Wars affair first in a long spell, mainly on the persuasiveness of its supporting cast. Cere (played past Debra Charles Thomson Rees Wilson) is a high full stop as Kestis's passably reluctant mentor.
